ROTARY MEETING THURSDAY August 8

Reminding everyone that we have our meeting this Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Stevies Cafe. Cathy Berger hosts.
We will also have a Board meeting on Wednesday, August 7, 7:00 am at Denny's Cafe just north of Rice Lake.
Duana hosted last week and gave us an update on what was happening with the Salvation Army and the new Shelter that will be opening up. The smaller building will be opening this fall - sadly due to significant deterioration and asbestos issues, the larger building will be torn down and rebuilt. It will be a better layout for a homeless shelter. There will be future opportunities to volunteer to help.
This Saturday, the Salvation Army will be hosting a Family Fun day in Barron from 10:00 am - noon. Location is the soccer fields that are right next to the cemetary on Hwy 8. They will be handing out free school backpacks (700+) and supplies along with a voucher for $25 toward a pair of shoes. Please feel free to stop by to help out! Several members have already committed to Duana. Jim - if you can bring the Rotary Vests to our Thursday meeting that would be great.
OLD BUSINESS:
Bylaws being finalized based on your feedback from two weeks ago.
Still reviewing a couple of different models for membership.
Dean presented a brief outline for the Bourbon Tasting event. Tentative Oct. 17, Church Barn, Tickets $100 pp. Looking to get to 100 invitees. Need 30 to break even. Looking at a model for donations. Will be finalizing through the board and then will bring to the club for a vote. We will need everyone to participate to help pull this off - but it will reap great rewards for our club, reputation, and fund raising.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
- Ruby's Pantry - Next date is Sat. Sept. 21. Get it on your calendar!!
- Cook a meal at St. Vincent de Paul's Pauls Pantry - Monika will be getting us a date in Nov.
- Oct. will have our Rose sales and tentative (needs formal approval) Bourbon Tasting.

AUGUST IS MEMBERSHIP EXTENSION MONTH

Welcome to the Membership issue of Around the District. Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick has issued a challenge to each of the 520+ Districts in the World to increase their membership by at least a net 100 for this Rotary year ending June 30, 2025. The challenge is in line with the overall effort to increase our membership so that we can continue and expand on the many good things Rotary and Rotarians do in the world.
The challenge is a tall order in parts of the world including Europe and North America where the track record is several years of declining membership. Those declines have been partially offset by increases in membership in India and Asia.

District 5960 implemented a new Rotary Foundation recognition program in 2022-23 with 40 Rotarians receicing that honor. In 2023-24 that number increased to 43, including 5 new members.
A Triple Crown Donor (TCD) makes an annual gift of $1,000 or more, is a Major Donor ($10,000+) and has made or committed $10,000+ to the Permanent Fund of The Rotary Foundation.
In 2023-24 --
- 43 Rotarians from the 1,950 total membership of the district
- 13 clubs had one or more Triple Crown Donors
- Contributions from TCD was $124,529 in 2023-24
- $124,529 was split between PolioPlus ($5,960) and Annual Fund ($118,569)
- 883 Rotarians in the district contributed to one or both PP and AF
- The 43 TCD have made lifetime gifts of $982,500
- The 43 TCD have made a commitment of $3,939,000 to the Permanent Fund
