Hoping everyone is enjoying our snowfall today. Want to remind you that we will be meeting at Stevies! 7:00 AM on Thursday, Nov. 17.
This week is hosted by Monika - she will be bringing in Sue Tindell from Travel Leaders to talk about current traveling trends and some winter get-a-ways you might want to consider.
Last week BJ hosted Wendy Loy from Northwood Tech. She shared with us some of the interesting learning opportunities that were available and how the college has adjusted to the changes and impacts of COVID. Interesting talk! Thank you BJ and Wendy!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- HAT/MITTEN DRIVE We are going to be doing a club collection of hats/mittens/gloves for Clare to take to the Free Clinic for any patient who has a need for them. Some kids ones are fine but mostly need adult wear that is new or gently used (please wash before bringing). If you could bring these on December 1 that would be great!
- ROSE SALES We had another successful Rose Sales this year. Still waiting on final numbers from the noon club to determine our total profit. I know that Kathy W from Rose committee sent info to our treasurer on club costs and final adjustments - If Kathy R. is here (I know she was headed to a warm locale) she will share with us...or as soon as she gets back.
- FOOD PANTRY DONATION We did agree as a club to donate $500 to the county food pantries. We agreed to wait until after our Rose Sales to do this so we have enough in our activity fund.
- MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION MEETING We are rescheduling our Membership Information Meeting - the date selected is Jan. 19th. This will be a morning breakfast meeting here at Stevies. Think about who you may want to invite as a potential future member.
The purpose of this meeting is to invite those interested in learning about Rotary. It is an opportunity to showcase what we are all about and increase our membership.
To help with recruitment, we are offering a provisional membership for 3 months (lower cost) so potential members can check us out before committing to a full membership. Please continue to reach out to the people Don Drost helped us to identify and any others you think might be interested.
- BELL RINGING We will be setting up our Bell Ringing schedule in the next couple weeks - please look at your calendar for a time/location that you would like to fill in to help us out! If you have a preference to date/location, please let me know!!
- RUBY'S PANTRY Don has coordinated a Ruby's Pantry volunteer opportunity for our club members for SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17th. We will meet at the Ruby's Pantry Delivery location at The Living Water's Church in Cameron (on the east side of Hwy SS 2 blocks before the lights). Dress for working outside. Please let Don know if you can attend. Would like as many as possible to join in!

Mid-Term Fun at Hamlin University – That’s correct there is nothing better to do on January 7th than attend the Mid-term conference of District 5960. SAVE THE DATE!!!! Be there or be square. The agenda is quickly coming together and it is jammed backed with great information and fun activities.
Tri-District Conference – I realize that April 29
th is a long long ways a way. However, it’s being held at
Madden’s Resort and the rooms are limited and as they book up, the cost of the rooms goes up. Personally I’m going up on Friday and leaving on Sunday. It is true that the actual conference will run from 9-4 and you could just come for the day. But if you want to bring your family, play golf, hob knob with friends, then getting a room is the way to go. You can cancel your reservation up to 30 days before the conference and get everything back but $25. Bottomline, encourage your members to get their rooms now.
I know that I have already talked about the radio show and the podcast but here are the links for the radio station to live stream on
Sundays at 3pm and for the
podcast that drops the next day. Our own Joe Stahlman was on last week and Peg Duenow will be on in 2 weeks. For those that are interested in advertising during the program, I will have all of the information in terms of costs and packages available. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE encourage your members to tune in.
Million Meals – As many of you already know, we are planning to pack 1 million meals through The Outreach Program in partnership with District 5950 this coming spring. We are looking for a venue. We need 15,000-20,000 sq feet of work space and a loading dock. Any one out there have an in? Obviously we would love to not have to rent the space. We would set up on a Friday and pack the million meals on Saturday. Lots of info coming soon but right now the date is based on what venue we can find. Please ask your members.
Strike out Polio – The Strike Out Polio campaign has been extended until 15 November. This is your chance to increase your Paul Harris Points – Give $100 before 15 November and get an extra 100 points. 1000 points = a Paul Harris Fellowship. How about this, give $365 and the district will add in 615 points and voila you have your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc Paul Harris. It doesn’t get much better.

Be Still My Beating Heart – I want you to know how proud I am when I go on your websites and see activities listed such as cleaning up yards, socializing with other clubs, joining together to serve community meals. I love the actions and the fact that you are listing them on your websites so that anyone who checks it out can get involved. Nice work

th – Membership Team meeting with Alex Johnson. You do not want to miss this. Alex is from Plano, Texas and took his club from 21 to 63 members in 1 year. That’s correct 1 year. It has to do with making Rotary accessible, visible, and service oriented.

1. Deano Pape - Deano Pape is president of Austin Rotary and has a talk that he is happy to deliver to area Rotary clubs called The 100 Hour Day: Welcome to Your Cellphone. He does an exercise with the audience that measures their technology consumption and discusses the effects of our social media and cellphone engagement. He also tailors his talk to specific requests, such as effects on our personal relationships, productivity in the workplace, education, political polarization, and/or post-lockdown uses of technology and where we go from here.
