Reminder - Meeting, Thursday, March 21 - 7:00 AM at Stevies Cafe!

Hello from Monika and Trudy!

This Thursday, March 21, 7:00 AM, Lori Zahrbock with Boys and Girls Club of Barron County will be joining us to present an update on the club.  We will also take a photo for a press release about the donation collected during the CanAM.

IMPORTANT: No meeting on Thursday, March 28th due to the Easter holiday.

At last week's meeting, Craig Hokanson presented about his unique Birkebeiner experience in February.  He has competed in 27 Birkies. This year for the race's 50th anniversary, Craig and two friends were selected to reenact the 800-year-old origin of the race - the rescue of the infant Prince Haaken. He was dressed in a costume that included a metal helmet, birch bark gators, and wood skis. His infant grandson Torin played Prince Haaken and was strapped to Craig's chest for part of the event.

OLD BUSINESS:
We will be discussing and voting on a $150 donation this Thursday as well as "passing the hat" for the gentleman who helped us sell 23 Valentine's Day raffle tickets.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  1. Duana shared a copy of New Richmond's application for nonprofits who would like to request funding from their club.
  2. UW-Eau Claire Barron County sent their annual scholarship request to us. We will continue the scholarship of $700.
  3. Our Club Recognition application is due March 28. Jason and Dean volunteered to fill out the application. They would like one more person to help.
  4. The public image group sent a press release and photo to the Barron, Chetek, Cumberland, Rice Lake, and Turtle Lake newspapers regarding our $4000 donation to the food shelves.
  5. On April 4, Dr. Ken Crabb, membership chairperson for our district, will be our guest speaker. Please make every effort to attend the meeting.
  6. Mike Van Gilder sent an email update on Never Ever Give Up Foundation (NEGU) for kids fighting cancer:
Sorry I have been absent the past several weeks.  Work has been insanely busy, and we are on vacation this week in AZ. Anyway, we are “on” for April 25th with the noon club for our NEGU presentation/proposal for a joint club project.  It appears we may have two local families receiving benefits from the NEGU Foundation currently.
Thanks for keeping that on the calendar!  I will find time to chair this activity if we get it off the ground. Please pass on to Dean and others as you see fit.  Thanks, Mike
DISTRICT NEWS

One realization we had during the COVID pandemic is that we do not necessarily need a physical District Office.  We found that District Board and Team meetings could be accomplished more efficiently and effectively remotely. In addition, our District executive Administrator worked from home and didn’t miss a beat keeping the District functioning.

After thoughtful consideration, District Leadership made the decision not to renew the lease on the office and instead redirect those funds into other areas that would support our clubs.
