ROTARY MEETING THURSDAY August 15

Reminding everyone that we have our meeting this Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Stevie's Cafe. Don Drost hosts.
We had a Board meeting on Wednesday, August 7, and followed up with a lot of discussion last week. We have some changes coming up so please review all the info in this bulletin. Here is a recap:
NEW BUSINESS
After reviewing adjustments from RI and the district, and with a look toward our future meeting schedule, the board made a recommendation that we keep our dues the same at $136.00 per quarter. Trudy moved to approve, Ken seconded, motion passed.
The Board made recommendations for the following donations:
Salvation Army $500 (for the school backpacks and shoes certificates)
Kids from Wisconsin $250 (toward the cost of bringing them here)
Hayward Project $500 (for the online platform on volunteer opportunities)
Dean made a motion to approve all as presented. Kathy R. seconded. The motion was passed.
Further budget discussion was that we will earmark approximately $900 for our dictionary project (similar to past years) and we will participate in the new City Sign that lists all the civic clubs.
NEGU - the Never Ever Give Up Joy Jars for the Jesse Reese Cancer organization. We had a presentation on this in the past. Mike VG indicated that the noon club wants to participate with us on this project - discussed having a small group take the lead on this and it will be a join project to get sponsorships/funds for approximately $15,000. This will not fall on our club alone. Mike indicated that he would take the lead, BJ, Clare and Kathy would also help. After discussion Kathy R. moved to support, Monika seconded. This was approved.
Club Schedule - Had a discussion on what would work best for our club in running meetings, trying to support increased participation and attendance and help support members who have jobs that make it more challenging to attend each week in the morning. Starting in September we are going to try to follow the model of Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, Social event on the 3rd Thursday, and a Board meeting on the first Tuesday. There may be adjustments made to this based on things already scheduled and/or holidays. This was reviewed with teh club. Kathy R. moved to a trial schedule. Trudy seconded. Motion Passed with one nay vote. Please review the Upcoming Programs Calendar shown below!!
Cathy Berger had the program. She did a toast to Club Members that provided a thank you, congratulations, and encouragement for future focus on membership. This was made even more special with Don able to toast with his newly won mugs. The question presented to the club membership was how can we host and encourage people to attend our meetings and join our team?
We talked about the future process of a more formal outlined membership process, a buddy system and guidelines, and a flyer for everyone to use and share. Also needing to finalize our social media presence. We hope to have a Business Membership option available before Oct. 17. They are still working on and finalizing the membership handbook with some adjustments. Great information and resources for our organization. Thank you!
OLD BUSINESS:
Dean presented the board approved and recommended outline for the Bourbon Tasting event.
Date - Thursday, Oct. 17
Location: Church Barn outside of Barron
Event Cost: Food $18 per plate; Site Rental $1200
Tickets $100 pp. Goal is to get 100 invitees. We need 30 to break even.
Potential Silent Auction to raise funds.
Looking at a model for donations where we have several options available for attendees to select where they want their donation to go. Considering adding the NEGU project as part of this. The board has reviewed this and is bringing to the club for a vote to go forward. THIS EVENT WILL NEED EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL!! We will need everyone to participate to help pull this off - but it will reap great rewards for our club, reputation, and fund raising. After discussion, Don motioned we go forward with this event, Cathy B. seconded. It passed. EVERYONE PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
- Ruby's Pantry - Next date is Sat. Sept. 21. Get it on your calendar!!
- Cook a meal at St. Vincent de Paul's Pauls Pantry - Monika will be getting us a date in Nov.
- Oct. 17th Bourbon Tasting Event
- Oct. 24th Rose Day
