Meeting Reminder - August 23, 2022

On Tuesday, August 23 our speaker will be author Kathy Waldvogel. She spoke earlier this year at Old North Church in Boston on her research/book:  Spies, Soldiers, Couriers, & Saboteurs: Women of the American Revolution.   This book is about women and girls active in the Patriots’ cause in the American Revolution.  Deb hosts and encourages all of us to invite daughters, granddaughters and any other guests welcome!

Last Tuesday, August 16, our speaker was Dave Armstrong, 75th District State Assembly Representative and Barron Co Economic Development Corporation Executive Director. Dave shared some interesting information on Barron Co. economic development and some challenges we face due to demographics in our area as well as around the world. Great information!

We also had a board meeting report.
1. We recieved our Rotary International Dues bill.  There was a slight increase - we will keep you posted regarding what, if any, impact that will have on us individually.
2. The Board recommended a $100 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Barron Co.  to help support the purchase of an AED.  The club supported this (motion by Monika, seconded by Don, motion passed).
3.  Ken will be coordinating Dictionaries again - looking for a workday in Sept.  (Sept. 6 or 20th?)

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
October 4th will be our membership informational meeting.  The purpose of this meeting is to invite those interested in learning about Rotary.  It is an opportunity to showcase what we are all about and increase our membership.

To help with recruitment, we are offering a provisional membership for 3 months (lower cost) so potential members can check us out before committing to a full membership.  Please continue to reach out to the people Don Drost helped us to identify and any others you think might be interested.

It is also important that our own members attend our weekly meetings - summer is difficult with all the family activities - hopefully we will see more of you after Labor Day weekend!

Next Board meeting Monday, Sept. 19 - time and place TBD

Rose Day 2022 is Oct. 27.  Roses will be $20 per dozen, and you will need to deliver your own roses. We will coordinate within our club to help each other make deliveries, or you can have your buyer pick up their roses at Cedar Mall on Thursday, October 27.  More info, posters, and collection envelopes to come!

Youth Safety Jim Stoll sent an email with a link for on-line training.  Check it out if you think you may ever have the opportunity to work with youth - you will need this certification. The link to the training is:
Applicants must follow all the prompts through the entire training and complete a background check application at the end.
