Good Morning and a Blessed Memorial Day to everyone. Hoping you are able to spend time with friends and family and still remember and give thanks to all who gave all so that we have the freedoms we do.
This week Jim hosts and we will have Joel Clapero, Cemetary Director from the Northern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetary speaking with us regarding the Veterans Cemetary located outside of Spooner.
Last week the club had Joe Erickson share information on the foundation and Dean gave out several Paul Harris awards. Congratulations to Cathy Berger (two awards, one as a Crandall and one as a Berger), Joe Erickson, Jim Stoll, Clare Janty and Dean him self. Here are a couple pics!
The club also had a discussion on the meeting that was held at the Curling club. A couple of comments were: Meeting went well, there was no echo for the speaker, the TV worked easily, a little difficult to meet with the round tables (more side conversations), concern over the ordering of food and paying rent each time we use (basically doubles the cost that we pay right now), also concern over setup and clean up after use. Will need to explore more - BJ indicated he would check in to what is involved in using a meeting room at NWT. The speaker last week, Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald provided an update on what is happening in the Barron Co. area - thanks to Jason for organizing the speaker/meeting and Don Drost for ordering food/meeting coordination.
The club also got an update regarding the Childrens Safety fair. Jeremy thought it was a little lighter in attendance. It was Armed Forces Day and numerous Grad parties. Clare handed out 89 fancy bandaids, and safety items handed out included reflective walking vests, carbon monoxide detectors, gun locks, and bike helmets. Special thanks to Clare, Jeremy and Jim Stoll for working at this event.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dean reviewed the potential date for the Bourbon Tasting event, the date under consideration was Thursday, Oct. 10. It doesn't conflict with the Men's Club Wine Tasting week or any Packer Games. It does however fall on the same night as the Boy Scouts Leadership Recognition Banquet. May want to consider another date? October 16th? We will hear more on this.
The Club Bylaws group will be meeting following our Thursday, May 30 meeting at Johnson Bank. We hope to finalize the bylaws at that time.
Ruby's Pantry - Saturday, June 15 - please mark it on your calendars so we can have a good showing of support from our club.
Reminder that there is an opportunity for our club membership to provide volunteer support to cook one of the meals for St. Vincent De Paul's Pauls Pantry (provided free meals M,T,TH, F each week). Would love for a member to step up and organize a date for us to do so. Please see Kathy R., Trudy or Monika if you are interested in coordinating this for us and we can get you the contact info.
If you need a program - Candace Falk, from the noon Rotary Club went to Guatamala for Rotary and has a prepared presentation.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
- Cameron Comets needs workers for their Haley's Comet Race on June 1 starting at 8:00 am. This is probably a couple hour event. Please let Trudy know if you are interested/able and she will get you contact info.
- Ruby's Pantry - Sat. June 15, 7:00 am
- Cook a meal at St. Vincent de Paul's Pauls Pantry - date ?? Time committment would be 8am-1pm. All meal supplies are provided. Looking for someone who would be willing to lead coordination of this for our club.

The White Bear Lake Club is co-sponsoring the “Skills for Disagreeing Better” workshop with the White Bear Lake League of Women Voters and the White Bear Lake Chamber of Commerce.
