Good Afternoon All,
Reminding you that we have our meeting this Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 7:00 AM at Stevies Cafe. Ken is hosting and we will have Peg Martin (from the Rice Lake Noon club) along with some of our student representatives that are part of the Rotary Student Exchange Program.
Please everyone remember to NOT park in the church parking lot - be sure to park (and let your guests know to park) on the street or on otherside of the Dry Cleaners. Thanks!
Thank you to all who had guests last week - a special thank you to Jim, Monika and Kathy for taking care of meeting details and presentations. And another special thank you to Don D. for coordinating a great membership drive. I understand we even had a presentation by Embrace...great chance for our visitors to see what they can learn at our meetings. I personally appreciate everything you all did to have this meeting work so well. Remember you can still invite those guests at ANY time. Also - remember your raffle tickets!! This helps our fundraising efforts - sell and bring them to meetings.

Happy Week #30. Time keeps ticking by. Before we know it the snow will be gone and we will be wondering when it is coming back. I know that seems impossible right now. Because I couldn’t get them to download last week I have included a couple of photos from our trip to Guatemala. There were a couple of great parts of the trip. One was getting to know a group of Hudson Daybreak Rotarians better. Rotarians never cease to amaze me. Second was being involved in a fabulous grant. A grant that was initiated in the communities where the project occurs, that has been so successful that it is continued year after year (a 7 year partnership between the Hudson Daybreak club and the Guatemala City Club), with over 7000 stoves built, and finally, no end in sight. Everywhere we built a stove, a woman would come up and ask how she could get one built. Every other group doing mission work that we met, had heard about and seen the stoves out in the communities. If your club would be interested in being involved, reach out to Hudson Daybreak or come to their meeting on March 8th and learn all about it.

1. 4 Way Test Lawn Signs - Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the District is able to extend an offer for Rotarians and Clubs to order 4-Way Test Lawn Signs at the low price of $10.00 per sign.These signs will feature your club’s website and QR code along with the Rotary Logo and the 4-Way Test. The 4-Way Test is a hallmark of Rotary. It is the guiding principle of how Rotarians conduct their lives. It is a concept that needs to be shared with others in the communities we live in.To that end, these lawn signs can be the catalyst to spark conversations with neighbors and friends about the 4-Way Test and also about Rotary. Please bring this offer up with your club members. See how many people are interested in buying one. (Note that for members who may live outside of your club’s community, there is an option to order a more generic version which features the www.rotarymidwest.orgwebsite which lists all the clubs in our District along with District 5950 and 5580. Then use this link to place your order.

· The signs will be sent directly to you for distribution.
· Your club can order signs for use at special or fundraising events.
· After collecting the money for the signs, please submit ONE check to the District Office or you can have Kathy invoice your club for the amount.

2. Uniting for Ukraine – I know we have talked before about our collaboration with Alight for sponsoring Ukrainian refugees. Here is a link to RI’s official collaboration with Welcome.US. Apr 29th – Tri-District Conference – Madden’s Resort at Gull Lake - Here is the info for you and your members. Please read carefully and pass on the info. -Deadline for all rooms is April 1st, 2023. Madden's agrees to hold 10 rooms (2 night stay required) in a rolling room block. We have 5 at $149+ (located in the Golf Villas) & 5 at $160+ located lakeside. Rooms will continue to added to this block as reservations are made by your guests, based on the resort's availability. We will be getting a link this week to place on the website/or distribute to attendees. There will be a note on the link stating one night stays will not be accepted online. One night stays will ONLY be accepted by contacting the resort directly at 800-642-5363. There are 12 rooms in the block currently located in the Mission Point area of the resort. These 2 buildings are being opened up early just for our group to accommodate the 1 night stay requests. Anyone that will need a one night stay should contact the resort sooner than later. Rooms not guaranteed with a deposit will be released back to general resort inventory April 2nd, 2023.

1. Deano Pape - Deano Pape is president of Austin Rotary and has a talk that he is happy to deliver to area Rotary clubs called The 100 Hour Day: Welcome to Your Cell phone. He does an exercise with the audience that measures their technology consumption and discusses the effects of our social media and cellphone engagement. He also tailors his talk to specific requests, such as effects on our personal relationships, productivity in the workplace, education, political polarization, and/or post-lockdown uses of technology and where we go from here. 2. Annie Nolte-Henning - Annie is Director of the Americas for Alight (previously the American Refugee Committee) - she is knowledgeable and inspiring. If she can't come and talk, she has a staff that can. Very cool. Give her a ring 402.297.2368
3. Bill Goodwin - This one comes to use via our own Kathy Hughitt. She has heard Bill speak on leadership but states that he is capable of speaking on multiple topics. Kathy says he is very engaging. Bill is also one of our Lakeville Rotarian. bill@prioritylivingmn.com
4. Kyle Haugen takes on all things public image. He's a fabulous speaker - inspirational and motivating. Take him up on one of his three prepared programs or challenge him with your specific request. He didn't know that I was going to add that last bit.' Reach out to Kyle.
A. “Rotary- Doing Good, Serious Fun” - Doing good and having fun should be what Rotary is all about…but what is “Serious Fun”? And are we really doing as much and having as much fun as we could? Let’s talk about why “Doing Good, Serious Fun” should be a Rotary mantra to live by, how it fits with Rotary President Jennifer Jones’s theme of “Imagine Rotary” and how we can engage our members to maximize the good…and the fun!
B. Principles of Effective Fundraising - Club fundraisers are more than about raising money, they should engage your members and the community as well. Learn principles that enhance your member participation and increase your fundraising results. Whether it be making $5,000-$10,000 in a small event or $1,000,000 in a major music festival (an actual Rotary example we'll talk about!), the principles are the same...and will lead to more impact in your community!
C. The Importance of Telling Our Rotary Story - Every Rotarian has a Rotary story, and telling our Rotary stories is the best way to show non-Rotarians who we are and what we do. Rotary Public Image Coordinator (Zones 25B &29) Kyle Haugen will share motivational tips on how to develop and tell our Rotary stories, which will lead to more understanding of our organization and get people excited to join us!
