REMINDER - MEETING THURSDAY Oct. 17 7:00 AM at Stevie's Cafe

Reminding everyone that we have our next meeting this Thursday, Oct. 17th at 7:00 am at Stevie's Cafe. This is our final prep meeting before the Bourbon tasting to be held that evening. Here are a couple of things to remember for Thursday:

1. If you are helping to do final set ups on Thursday evening - please show up about 5:15-5:30. If you are bringing an item for the silent auction please bring it to the meeting or at 5:30pm at the Church Barn - have it display ready.

2. This is a casual but nice event. Please wear your Rotary shirts or dress accordingly.

3. Be sure to bring your orange ticket stub with the name of who purchased the ticket to the Thursday meeting so we can compile a check-in sheet for that evening.

4. I have a list of Rotarians and duties for Thursday evening.

OTHER BUSINESS:

Last week we had a discussion on a couple of donation opportunities. The club voted to send $100 to Pink Ribbon Advocacy for a sign for Curl for the Cure. The club also did a "pass the hat" for donations for Polio Plus (that will be matched by the club) for October focus of Polio Plus month. We will report on these donations at our October wrap-up meeting on October 31.

Remember that you still need to sell Roses!! Rose Day is October 24th. If you have stubs to give to me for Rose pick-ups at the Mall - please bring this Thursday, or bring to me first thing Thursday Oct. 24th at Maxine's at 7:00 or the Mall at 8:00 am. We will need some people willing to help unload the flower truck that Thursday morning as well.

Last - we had an opportunity to make some $ by helping park cars at Mosiac's Anniversary Open House. There were about 9-10 club members helping with this event. Was a quick and easy way to get some visibility and was a fun time dodging dicey drivers! If anyone still has their vest - please bring to the meeting on Thursday - Jim is re-organizing. Thanks!

Treasurer Report:

BJ, Jim and Jason S. will be completing an audit on our books.

We are still looking for a new Treasurer starting in July 2025. Kathy will be retiring and won't have the same technology availability. If you are interested please let her or any board member know now - you can get a LOT of training in ahead of time.

Also, if someone is interested in doing some PR (facebook and/or web page) we could use your help!

UPCOMING PROGRAMS:

Reminder we began our trial on the new meeting system of two formal meetings per month (Oct. is an exception) and one social event. The social event will be planned by two club members as part of the meeting host rotation. Please be flexible and open minded - this is a trial. You will get information each week - you just need to read the bulletin ;-) and mark your calendars!

October will have meetings all month due to the DG visit, Bourbon Tasting and Rose Sales Events.

Oct. 17 - Bourbon Tasting Event Meeting in morning to finalize any details, and turn in Rose Sales Money

Oct. 24 - Rotary Rose Day - No morning meeting - those who want to help can attend breakfast at Maxines at 7 AM - please turn in Rose $ the 17th or at Maxines at 7 or at the Mall at 8 Am.

Oct. 31 - Meeting - no speaker - wrap up of Bourbon Tasting and Rose Sales.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Polio Plus | Rotary District 5960 (rotary5960.org)

We are once again promoting our STRIKE OUT POLIO campaign with recognition points matches and Polio Plus Society opportunities!

WHAT: District-wide LOCAL events that clubs and individuals can participate in and engage the public, friends and family to make donations to PolioPlus. Clubs are encouraged to get together and bowl at their local bowling alleys OR simply donate if bowling isn’t feasible.

WHEN: Anytime between October 1^st and October 31st, 2024.

WHERE: ANYWHERE you want! Support your local establishment, plug in the Wii at home, or skip bowling all together. There is no wrong way to STRIKE OUT POLIO.

HOW TO RAISE FUNDS:
1. If you are a bowler, Collect Pledges from friends for pins knocked down and have some good competitive fun. We are supplying a pledge sheet here as an example. This is a great way to get out the Rotary PolioPlus message.
2. If bowling isn’t really in your lane, simply give to the cause.

RECOGNITION:
We will reward and recognize people who give at two levels:
SPARE!: Give at least $100 to PolioPlus before October 31st and the donation will be matched 1:1 with Recognition Points.
STRIKE!!: Give at least $365 (equivalent of $1/day) to PolioPlus during this campaign and we will utilize Recognition Points to award a Paul Harris Fellowship!

PLUS…

POLIO PLUS SOCIETY: Pledge to give at least $100 every year and you will be recognized as a Polio Plus Society member and receive a PPS pin for your generosity and commitment.
