DISTRICT/INTERNATIONAL ROTARY NEWS:
Greetings,
I am writing you with an urgent request for action regarding our upcoming Make Peace Visible Conference, scheduled for May 1-3 at Mystic Lake Center. The Conference Planning Team has been working for almost a year and has arranged for an incredible array of keynote speakers and breakout presentations focused on steps we can take to reduce food insecurity in our community. Nationally known experts in this field are coming to Minnesota to share their expertise and successes.
Members and friends of Rotary throughout the Midwest have been invited to participate in the conference. As of today, around 115 people have registered for the event, well short of the number deserved by the program lineup and also below the participation level guaranteed to Mystic Lake. Thank you if you’re registered!!
The world is different today than it was a year ago. Our target audience of people engaged at the community level in bringing food to people in need is under great pressure, with constantly increasing demand and decreasing levels of support, particularly from government sources. Anxiety levels are high, and many of those community leaders find themselves in precarious financial positions.
My urgent request of you is to take action TODAY to:
--Register for the conference if you aren’t already registered. Preference is to come for the entire conference, but even attending one of the days would be helpful. Leaders in our District (that means you!!) need to show up as a model to members and support 5960. Registration | Make Peace Visible Conference 2025
--Contact your clubs if you’re in an Assistant Governor role. I strongly encourage each club to register at least two more people for the event. The conference would be an excellent introduction to the larger Rotary world for newer members. I encourage clubs to contact community leaders involved in food security efforts to invite/sponsor their participation.
--Presidents, register for the conference if you’re not there, and bring someone from your club or community. They will thank you for thinking of them and might even join your club if they’re not already members.
--Consider hosting a table in the House of Friendship to highlight club service projects, Foundation grant successes, or District Team efforts. Many tables have been reserved, but we have room for about ten more reservations. Contact Cheryl Amundson if interested. HOF Registration Link: CLICK HERE.
In summary, we have an excellent opportunity to work together to improve food security in our communities. It would be most unfortunate to miss out on that opportunity. Please take action TODAY to join Rotarians and guests at Mystic. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
