This week Trudy hosts and we will have our very own Don Drost share with us about his trip to the Panama this past year.
Last week we had a report out from the Board. Reminder to review the bylaws that Jason sent out so we can do a final vote this month. We reviewed the Crutches for Africa Project and decided to participate. We will be looking to collect mobility devices in Oct. and raising donations for the $10,000 shipping container costs. We also voted to support the Malaria project. Ana moved to support the board recommendation of $1000, this was seconded by Ken. All approved. Clare, through the Cumberland Impact Club will match that $1000 donation. We may be receiving our 227 dictionaries in the next few weeks - look to see when/where you can help distribute to our county schools. Have had committments from Jeremy for Prairie Farm, and Cumberland Impact Club for Cumberland and Turtle Lake. Thanks Ken for getting this project completed again! Our biggest project coming up is the Spirits and Bourbon Tasting. WE NEED YOU TO SELL TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT! We need to turn in our initial numbers on Spt. 18 and final numbers for food on Spt. 22.
We are looking to do a Club Visioning in January/Feb. Watch for more information. This will be a one night activity that will help our entire club.
A couple of other reminders:
1) Spirits Event tickets need to be sold!! This event will support the Salvation Army, Boys&Girls Club, Pregnancy Help Center, Benjamin's House, and Pink Ribbon Advocacy. Tickets are available through Kathy. Please let Kathy know of any tickets you already have sold. Also we will need all club members to help with serving the samples and the food.
2) Rubies Pantry volunteering is this month - Sat. Sept. 20th! That's a week and half away!! Get it on your calendar!
Cumberland Rotary Impact Club Update:
REMINDER - Meeting this week on Wed. at 7:00 AM at Peter and Annies.
Reminding club members that the club is doing the clean-up of their Adopt-A-Highway section. Meeting at Ace Hardware Parking Lot at 3:00 pm to then do the clean up. Will be working to set up collection throughout Oct. for the Crutches for Africa project. Our group will also be supporting the dictionary project with delivering dictionaries to third grade classes in Cumberland and Turtle Lake when dictionaries arrive.

By-laws were finalized at Sept. 2 Board meeting and Jason sent them to the club members to review. Please take time to review as we will be voting on them later in Sept.

Monday, Spt. 8th was International Literacy Day! We are so appreciative of Rotary members like you who make it possible for people of all age to change their lives through education. Transformational learning opportunities include early childhood education, foundational literacy and numeracy classes, technology programs, and continuing education for teachers.

Together, we are working toward a more equitable world where all children get a quality education and adults have lifelong learning opportunities that equip them with vital numeracy and literacy skills.
The Rotary Club of Panamá Norte, Panama, continues addressing the country’s digital divide with a large-scale project that began as a simple backpack drive and now equips interactive digital classrooms. During the pandemic, club members noticed that schools lacked the technology they needed to keep students learning. So they began to offer them high-tech resources and teacher training that has now been integrated into the country’s education system.
The Rotary Club of Cardiff Bay, Wales, hosted a teacher from Japan who used a global grant scholarship to study how to help her students improve their English.
The Rotary Club of Knysna, South Africa, met with local partners and with Rotary clubs in the United Kingdom and Germany in 2019 to ask what it would take to ensure that all children in Knysna could get a good early education by 2025. The resources they mobilized through Rotary projects empowered women in underserved communities to open 50 early childhood centers to serve 4,000 children and reach over 5,000 parents in a campaign to improve early learning and offer economic development opportunities.
