Last week during our Zoom meeting Dean Springer talked about a great opportunity for our Club to work with the Rotary Curlers from both our club and the Noon Club in hosting the Rotary Can Am Tournament next year February 1, 2, and 3. They are looking for people willing to lead a couple of events:

Friday - Banquet including dinner/dance

A new milestone has been met. We are more than 2/3 through the year. That’s amazing. Welcome to Week #35. I don’t know about any of you, but I am so ready for spring. I am done with snow and ice. I am ready for tulips and BBQs, sundresses and mint juleps. For the skiers out there, the Birkie is over, the snow can leave. My love of snow angels has even diminished. That’s saying a lot. 2. Podcast Update – Sometimes, one just gets to brag. I received numbers today about how much traffic we are getting through the podcast. – Live listeners 3000 each week. Podcast listening – averaging 350 unique listeners each week. Not bad. Actually very good and way above average for new podcasts.

1. Want to boost your member engagement? Get involved in a grant – local or international. There’s nothing in the world like being involved in making someone else’s life better. Here are some options (I will try to continue to list grant opportunities)
a. Nepal - We are writing to propose a project that we believe will make a significant difference in the lives of girls in rural areas of Nepal. Our Rotary Club of Lamjung has been working tirelessly to improve access to education for girls in our region, but we believe that with your support, we can expand our efforts and make an even greater impact.The project we propose is focused on improving the educational opportunities for girls in rural areas of Nepal. Specifically, we want to provide support to schools in these areas by providing them with resources and tools that will help them provide a better education to their female students. This includes things like textbooks, school supplies, and other educational materials that can help girls learn and thrive in the classroom. Our project will also provide training and support to teachers and school administrators, helping them to better understand the unique challenges that girls face in rural areas, and how to overcome these challenges to provide them with the best possible education. This will include training on topics like gender sensitivity, classroom management, and effective teaching strategies.We believe that this project is critically important, as girls in rural areas of Nepal face significant barriers to education. These barriers can include everything from lack of access to schools, to social and cultural norms that discourage girls from pursuing an education. By providing support to schools in these areas, we can help to break down these barriers and give girls the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.We are seeking your support for this project, both in terms of financial assistance and expertise. 2. Share your Ukrainian Rotary Projects - As we near the 1st anniversary of the war in Ukraine---there is one good thing to acknowledge and celebrate-- this war has brought out the very best in Rotarians worldwide in support of the Ukrainian people. Rotarians saved countless lives through their donations and projects since the war began. The war conditions presented Rotarians with considerable challenges dealing with communications, sourcing items, and funding to get the Rotary projects done. They did it anyway. I am inviting you to tell those special stories of your District’s Rotarians doing good in Ukraine. You’ve been sharing them within your District, now share them with the world. Beginning in early March, I will be traveling throughout Ukraine and neighboring countries supported by local teams. This tour will be broadcast live and on-demand through Rotary networks, partner networks and social media. We will visit Rotary projects, talk with the local people, and share their stories with the world. There is a 2-fold mission incorporated into this trip. Our real-time broadcast will feature your stories, AND train a small team of displaced Ukrainians who will continue to broadcast and carry on the storytelling after I return home. Our approach puts a face on the war, helps a few Ukrainians more than just survive, and keeps the impact of the war and Rotary’s ongoing relief and recovery efforts at the top of everyone’s mind and not “buried on page 6.” THIS IS HOW YOU CAN HELP - Tell us the details of your project:

As this first tour is meant to establish a base of communications with Ukrainian Rotary groups and individual reporters, our time will initially be limited to a handful of projects we can visit in person. The broadcast is free, but for as little as $2.50 per month they can give a job to a Ukrainian, support their families and hear the stories of recovery and survival firsthand.

Apr 29th – Tri-District Conference – Madden’s Resort at Gull Lake - Here is the info for you and your members. Please read carefully and pass on the info. -Deadline for all rooms is April 1st, 2023. Madden's agrees to hold 10 rooms (2 night stay required) in a rolling room block. We have 5 at $149+ (located in the Golf Villas) & 5 at $160+ located lakeside. Rooms will continue to added to this block as reservations are made by your guests, based on the resort's availability. We will be getting a link this week to place on the website/or distribute to attendees. There will be a note on the link stating one night stays will not be accepted online. One night stays will ONLY be accepted by contacting the resort directly at 800-642-5363. There are 12 rooms in the block currently located in the Mission Point area of the resort. These 2 buildings are being opened up early just for our group to accommodate the 1 night stay requests. Anyone that will need a one night stay should contact the resort sooner than later. Rooms not guaranteed with a deposit will be released back to general resort inventory April 2nd, 2023.

March - Water, Sanitation and Hygiene - How about inviting someone form WASHRAG (water and sanitation and Hygiene rotary action group)?
1. Naomi Trelouw - This comes directly from Ruth Peterka. “I just wanted to share with you a potential speaker for clubs. The Reel Hope project is a nonprofit group that makes "reels" for kids in foster care in the state of Minnesota to help share their stories in hopes that the kids become adopted and find a forever home. They have a great website with tons of information, and you can watch several of the reels. After they spoke to our club, one of our members initiated a matching donation challenge and we were able to sponsor 2 reels/kids plus a little extra. Pretty great way to make a huge impact on a kid's life. The contact I have used is : Naomi Trelouw. Her email is: naomi@thereelhopeproject.org. I know they are a group that is willing to travel pretty much anywhere and are very interested in speaking and connecting with Rotary clubs. Just an idea for others that our members were excited about.

1. Dr. Ann Frisch – I don’t know if I can possibly give enough accolades to Ann and all she has done for peace around the world. Perhaps it is best to let you know this. “In 2017, Frisch was chosen by Rotary International as a People of Action: Champion of Peace in recognition of her extraordinary accomplishments. Frisch is one of only six Rotarians throughout the world to be given this honor. She attended an awards ceremony at the U. N. European Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.” Did you even know that RI has a seat at the UN? We do. Anyway, this impressive woman lives in our backyard and is happy to come out to our clubs and speak. I know because I asked her. She said yes!!!! We are truly blessed. Poverty
1. Darcy Ellarby - Darcy recently joined the board of directors for an amazing nonprofit organization operating in Ghana in West Africa called Africa Youth Rising. Rather than reacting to the results of poverty, AYR is taking a much needed and novel approach to examine the root causes of vulnerability. AYR works to address these needs long before families destabilize and children end up in youth homes or suffer life-long consequences of malnutrition and lack of education or medical care. AYR's executive director is in Ghana and is able to zoom in as well for presentations.

1. The 4 Way Test/Virtues Project - George Wickstrom - George is passionate about making the world a better place by entering each encounter consciously thinking about the 4 way test. A. “Rotary- Doing Good, Serious Fun” - Doing good and having fun should be what Rotary is all about…but what is “Serious Fun”? And are we really doing as much and having as much fun as we could? Let’s talk about why “Doing Good, Serious Fun” should be a Rotary mantra to live by, how it fits with Rotary President Jennifer Jones’s theme of “Imagine Rotary” and how we can engage our members to maximize the good…and the fun!
B. Principles of Effective Fundraising - Club fundraisers are more than about raising money, they should engage your members and the community as well. Learn principles that enhance your member participation and increase your fundraising results. Whether it be making $5,000-$10,000 in a small event or $1,000,000 in a major music festival (an actual Rotary example we'll talk about!), the principles are the same...and will lead to more impact in your community!
C. The Importance of Telling Our Rotary Story - Every Rotarian has a Rotary story, and telling our Rotary stories is the best way to show non-Rotarians who we are and what we do. Rotary Public Image Coordinator (Zones 25B &29) Kyle Haugen will share motivational tips on how to develop and tell our Rotary stories, which will lead to more understanding of our organization and get people excited to join us!

1. Dave Webb – Homerun Leadership - Consider inviting Keynote Speaker and Best Selling Author of Homerun Leadership to your next Rotary Club meeting. Dave Webb is currently a member of the Roseville Rotary Club and has been a Rotary Member for the past 25 years. Dave is willing to drive to join you, in person or on zoom, for your next Rotary meeting. Dave’s specialty is helping leaders and leadership teams use a simple 4 step, science based, leadership framework that he puts on a baseball diamond for leaders to follow and produce the best team decisions. 1. Deano Pape - Deano Pape is president of Austin Rotary and has a talk that he is happy to deliver to area Rotary clubs called The 100 Hour Day: Welcome to Your Cell phone. He does an exercise with the audience that measures their technology consumption and discusses the effects of our social media and cellphone engagement. He also tailors his talk to specific requests, such as effects on our personal relationships, productivity in the workplace, education, political polarization, and/or post-lockdown uses of technology and where we go from here.
