Sunrise Rotary Club Update:

REMINDER - MEETING: Jan 14, 2026 at Cabin Coffee 7:00 AM.

We will be meeting this week - 7:00 AM at Cabin Coffee - our program is hosted by Don D.  and will be Kory Richter from Tractor Central on the technology in Agricultural Crops.

Last week we had a report out of the Board Meeting from the 6th. Couple of the highlights are:

All finances are in good spot.  Sell those Valentine's Raffle tickets.  Drawing to be held Thusday, Feb. 12th.  Pay your dues if you have not yet for 3rd quarter.

We will be doing our Club Visioning on Thursday, Feb. 19th in the evening (5:00 social/5:30 meeting) in lieu of a morning meeting.  Tentatively scheduled at Northwood Tech. We will have pizza and pop available.  Please put it on your calendars and watch for more info.

NEGU reminder March 27 is our date for the Joy Jar packing event to be held at Bethany Lutheran Church.  We have exceeded our goal of $16,000 and now shooting for $20,000.  We will need approximately 50 people to make this a success.  9-noon is set up (will need all club members to  help out) and 1-5 would be the packing of the Joy Jars.  Hoping to make a a$20,000 goal so we can pack more jars.

Foundation Update - please look to Rotary Direct for your Foundation Donations.  We have about 8 members doing regular donations.

Feb. 5th will be the Community Connections event.  We are tentatively planning on making two types of soup on Sunday, Jan. 31 in conjunction with the noon club.  Will serve at the event on the 5th.  Please put it on your calendar and watch for more info.

Tentative individual for this summers Rotary Youth Exchange program.  The club voted (Jeremy moved, Joe seconded) to provide a min. of $500 to the person who may participate.  We may include more for spending.   Club members Joe and Jim have also applied for the Friendship Exchange to Argentina - waiting to hear if they got approval. Argentina will be sending Rotarians here (June 1-3) looking to provide housing and a tour schedule - watch for more info. No opposition to our club taking the lead on this.

After the One Summit event we have a tentative plan to do a Business After 5 event in Cameron…goal would be increase membership or another Companion Club.  Last comment was a thank you to those members who attended MidTerms in January!

Cumberland Rotary Impact Club Update:

REMINDER - Meeting on Jan. 14th at Bona Casa at 5:30 pm.  (Next on January 28th, 7:00 AM at Peter and Annies.)

On 1/14 we are hosting a social/meeting/service event at Bona Casa at 5:30. It will be the kick off of our hat/mitten drive for the schools.  We were contacted that the schools also needed brand name tissues (softer on the noses) and gently used shoes for kids who forget their shoes.  We are adding these items to the drive.  We also had an article in the Cumberland Advocate (pic below).   Our next morning meeting will be on 1/28 at 7am at Peter and Annie’s.

This International Mega Meeting will feature distinguished global peace and Rotary leaders, including:

• Mark Daniel Maloney – Past President, Rotary International (2019–2020)
Steve Killelea – Founder & Executive Chairman, Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), and Founder of the Rotary–IEP Ambassador Program

The 2026 Peace Begins at Home – International Mega Meeting is designed to mobilise peace advocates, families, community and faith leaders, multicultural associations, Rotary leaders and members, civil society organisations, and global changemakers from around the world.

The meeting seeks to reinforce a vital truth: sustainable global peace is built through daily actions, shared values, and strong relationships—beginning at home.

Today, rising violence, conflicts, family violence and abuse, along with increasing youth gang and community-related violence globally, highlight the urgent need to strengthen social cohesion, youth belonging, and family-level prevention. These challenges call for Rotary-led, community-driven initiatives, hybrid peace events, and strong collaborative networks.

While policing and security responses remain essential, lasting peace and safety depend on preventive, community-led approaches that foster positive identity, inclusion, and resilience—particularly among young people and families most vulnerable to alienation and peer-driven violence.

Moments like these remind us that peace cannot be taken for granted.

They call us to renew our commitment to grassroots peacebuilding, starting within families, groups, and communities—where values are shaped and a sense of belonging is nurtured.

Why Peace Begins at Home Matters

Sustainable peace starts locally. Many wider conflicts are rooted in:
• Broken relationships
• Intolerance and exclusion
• Violence within homes and communities

Through this Mega Meeting, we aim to:
• Shift peacebuilding from theory to daily practice
• Empower individuals and families as first peace actors
• Strengthen community cohesion across cultures and generations

Thank you for your continued commitment to peace and humanity. I sincerely hope you will be able to register and join us for this important global gathering.
