REMINDER Meeting This Thursday! January 16th

We had our meeting last week on Jan. 9th and we made some decisions affecting how we are going to run our meeting.  Hopefully this will help everyone stay on track and get back in the habit of attending as many meetings as you are able! 

BOARD TOPICS DISCUSSED/FINALIZED:    

1. Treasurers Report:  Admin Acct. $7790.24   Activity Acct. $11,432.68  Also, second quarter dues are due! do be do be do

2. BJ reviewed Budget Process and Reporting

3.  Valentines Raffle - we will be drawing on Thursday, Feb. 13th. Tickets were handed out  - remember, we only sell 100 tickets and will have about 5 weeks to do so. All moneys raised will go to the Barron Co. Food Banks.

4.  NEGU Project Update. Jesse Reese Foundation.  Never Ever Give Up Joy Jars, committee head by Mike VG.  We will need to raise $16,000 for a full Joy Jar packing event.  The fundraising website has been started.  The group will be meeting with the subcommittee from the noon club and will be clarifying the grant process.  (Update BJ did get info on the grant process and this project would qualify.)

5.  At our Christmas Party, we were able to raise $200 during our game that winner Cathy B. would like split between the Barron Co. Humane Society and the Rice Lake Friends of the Library.  She has requested that the board consider a match from the club.  Board approved and the club voted (Motion made by Ana and seconded by Jason) its approval.  Kathy will send out checks for $200 to each organization this week. 

6.  Meeting Schedule - big discussion held on this with  additional input from club members.  A motion was made to go back to meeting each week.  Board meeting the first Tues. of each month and the Thursday following that will be a business meeting.  Any fifth Thursdays will be club assembly days.  We will also appoint two people per month to coordinate a social event that can be held at any time during the month based on their planning.   The motion was made by Clare and seconded by Ana.  Motion passed.  

So please review the calendar list below for new dates/assignments.  I will work to keep it as close to what was previously scheduled so it may not be exactly in alpha order.  Thank you everyone for your flexibility, and willingness to try some thing different.  As part of this, it was emphasized the importance of having a speaker.  If you cannot find one for your week scheduled, please contact another club member - we can help you on this! 

7. Membership Update.  Continuing work on Companion Club that would be connected to Barron Co. Sunrise Rotary Club and Business Club membership.  

8.  Speakers and Social Activity.  Discussion on the importance of having speakers when you are scheduled, if you cannot find one be sure to let the club know.  We have resources!  

• Ruby's Pantry - Next date is Sat. March 15, 2025 - please put it on your calendar. 
• St. Vincent DePaul - Paul's Pantry:  Cooking meal on Monday, March 31  Please put it on your calendar - we will set up shifts as it gets closer.  Thank you Monika for coordinating. 

UPCOMING PROGRAMS:     

Reminder we have changed back to meeting each week.  Please work hard to get a speaker.  Let us know if you cannot find one.  Also, Social Activity Planners for the month will be listed immediately after each month.

Jan. 30 - Meeting - (5th week)  Club Assembly - small groups plan to re-connect and update the club on your status.

Happy New Year Rotarians!

Happy New Year to the family of District 5960 Rotarians. My hope for each of you is that 2025 isn’t ‘just another year’ but that you truly experience a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Try something new at your club; a new service project, a new fund-raiser, a new meeting format/time/day, you get the picture! Let’s make 2025 the year that our community discovered the simply irresistible Rotary club that each of you helps to create and nurture.
January is Vocational Service month on the Rotary calendar. It is a time for us to learn about, to recognize, and to appreciate the professional contributions of current and potential Rotarians in our community. Take time to visit a member business as an individual or as a club, to learn about a business or retail operation during a ‘vocational minute' (or five) during a club meeting, and/or to recognize a significant employer in your town. Or come up with your own idea to celebrate the entrepreneurs and business leaders all around us.

January 18^th is an important day on our District calendar. You are all invited to join me and more hundred(s) of your fellow Rotarians at our Mid-Term Assembly of Clubs. Details and registration link are included in this issue. I strongly encourage you to make plans with your club members to ride together and come to the Assembly. We will learn and work together to turn our club into a ‘Third Place’ where people come for friendship, belonging, and purpose. Author Rick Kyte will share his vision based on his best-selling book entitled ‘Finding Your Third Place’. We will also hear from several District Grant recipients who leveraged their Foundation grant to continue growing a concept within or beyond their community. Seemingly wild ideas in the past, such as eradicating polio, providing a ‘shelter box’ to victims of natural or man-made disasters, and others started as a District Grant. You never know.
