Barron County Sunrise Rotary Club Update:

REMINDER - OUR MEETING isThursday morning, April 16, 7:00 am at Cabin Coffee in Rice Lake.

 Ana is our host, and her speaker will be Terry Sharp from the Golden K. Ana says “Thanks, Joe”, for helping to set this up.

Last week we hosted the county food pantries.  We presented a $2960.00 check, or $370 each to eight pantries: Barron, Cameron, Chetek, Cumberland, Prairie Farm, Rice Lake, Turtle Lake, and St. Vincent de Paul. Six pantry representatives were guests at our meeting, each giving an update on their organization. All of them indicated that visits have increased over the past several months, and summer traffic is expected to be even higher. The two main reasons for food insecurity in our county continue to be housing costs and transportation expenses. 

Ruby's Pantry is no longer in operation in WI, MN and IA, due to funding shortfalls. We will no longer be able to volunteer for the program in Cameron. 

Our Sunrise Rotary Curling Team of Bruce Smith, Bill Kind, Sheldon Johnson, and Dane Jensen won the bronze medal at the International Curling World Championship event in Scotland. Congratulations!! 

Wait, there's more! Emily Saffert, Lori Springer, and Teresa Gargulak finished in second place for the City of Stranraer's treasure hunt! Rice Lake was well represented in Scotland in 2026.

A couple of reminders: 

Club Visioning exercises will happen Thursday, May 14 or 21st … leaning towards the 21st.    

We are collecting items for Crutches for Africa. Mobility-related items can be brought to our meetings throughout May or taken to Tyler at Kllcoyne Memorial Services in Rice Lake.  Items will be shipped to Africa the end of May. 

Joe Erickson and his wife Julie will be going on a Rotary Group Friendship Exchange this spring to Buenos Aries.  At the beginning of June, a group from Buenos Aries will be coming here - Rotary is looking for host families for June 4-7th.  

Monday, May 4 at 5:30 PM is our Cameron membership event at Mosaic - see below for more information.  Feel free to invite Cameron businesses and individuals. Appetizers will be served and the event will include a tour of the newly remodeled Mosaic Technologies building. For questions, contact Chris F.

May 14-22 we will have representatives from the Czech Republic visiting our community.  We are looking for hosts for this visit.  Please contact Kathy R. or Deb Neuheisel if you are interested. 

Saturday, May 16th is our Children's Safety Fair at Northwood Technical College. Volunteers are needed, please let Jeremy know if you can assist that day or would like a poster to help advertise the event. They have enough bicycle helmets for this year, but we may need to purchase safety vests. This is a fun event, great for kids and adults! 

 

Cumberland Rotary Impact Club Update:

REMINDER - No Meeting This Week, Wed. April 15th!
The club had a great discussion with Dan Hopkins, the Cumberland HS principal last week. We brainstormed an idea to have a day-long leadership academy for high schoolers to discuss leadership behaviors and ways to build those skills. A subgroup will meet with the National Honor Society, school counselor, and Dan Hopkins to discuss next steps, with the plan to have a mini leadership session yet this school year.

We are going to host a diaper and laundry detergent drive for Mother's Day, with more info to come. We are putting together prizes for a raffle at the Taste of Cumberland in support of the Boys and Girls Club. Submitted by Lisa.
