Good Morning and Happy Monday to you all!
Reminding you that we have our meeting this Thursday, Oct. 12th, 7:00 am at Stevies. Jeremy hosts and he will have Dr. Lauren Wentz, professor of Biology at UWEC-Barron Co with us. She will be sharing some of her experiences as a professor at the college, including fun projects and student experiences.
Last week Clare hosted Charlie Cogan who shared an overview about the Book Project with Sudan. We are considering this project for our international support project. There have been some questions from members as we did support a literacy project in the past. The program that Charlie presented on is different from the past program. Some or all of you may have received an email regarding the Guatemala Literacy Project. Here is a review of what that project is:
GUATEMALA LITERACY PROJECT
As the Rotary Club of Barron County Sunrise considers how you would like to be involved this year, you may have questions, so I wanted to answer some of the most frequent ones…
- Is this a NEW grant or is it the same effort as last year?
This is a NEW grant (GG #2351451), hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Guatemala-Las Americas (D-4250) and Downey, CA (D-5280). This grant is similar to previous projects but will bring critical educational resources to about 400 new teachers and 6600 new students in impoverished schools in rural Guatemala.

- What was the amount of the last contribution we made to a GLP Global Grant?
The Rotary Club of Barron County Sunrise contributed $300 USD to help break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala.
- Is our club’s contribution eligible for a match?
You can contact your District Rotary Foundation Chairperson to find out if your donation is eligible for matching with District Designated Funds (DDF). The GLP will take care of all Global Grant paperwork and request matches from The Rotary Foundation – helping your club multiply its impact by nearly three times!
- Can we travel to Guatemala to see the GLP in action?

- How do I pledge?
Just fill out the easy online form in this link, you can help ensure students receive the tools they need to soar. The deadline to join the effort is December 1.

We did get our new shirts - so please bring cash/check to cover the cost of the items you purchased! I will bring the remaining ones on Thursday. We did not get anyone to greet - if anyone is interested, please feel free to come in a few minutes early to set out nametags and get the raffle materials ready. Sure appreciate it!
ROSE DAY - OCTOBER 26!
We got our tickets and posters for our biggest fund-raiser - Rose Sales! I will have materials again this week. Rose Day is Thursday, Oct. 26. And roses will be $25 per dozen (with a $5 coupon for Adventures/Lehmans). Everyone delivers their own or the recipients can pick them up at the mall on the 26th between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM. We will have a couple members who are willing to do some delivery (thank you Joe, Jim, and Ken) hopefully a few others can help out. We will not have our meeting on the 26th - so we will meet on Tuesday, October 24th starting at 5:00 pm at Adventures! So we will combine our social event with turning in Rose Tickets/money. So stop in for some beverages, socializing and rose sales final coordination.
I promised some more info on roses - so here are those details:
1. $25 per dozen - they are wrapped and have flower food with them. Purchasers cannot specify color....if they come in to pick up, they can select their own color.
2. Cash or checks payable to Barron Co. Sunrise Rotary.
3. If you have talked to someone within our club to deliver for you - please complete ALL the information on the ticket stub.
4. If you are delivering them yourself - be sure to give the person who bought the flowers the coupon. If they are coming in to pick up the flowers - we will need the coupon number to match up with sales ticket.
5. If you are delivering your own - please turn in your $ by Tuesday the 24th. KEEP your ticket stubs so you know who you need to deliver to.
6. If your purchaser is picking up their flowers - please turn in your money AND ticket stubs by Tuesday, the 24th so we know who is coming and how many roses are spoken for.
7. We will be able to sell more on that Thursday provided we have roses left. This is why we need to know your individual sales so there are enough roses.
8. If you are interested - we - along with noon club members will meet for breakfast on Thursday the 26th at Maxine's. Then we head over to the Mall to our rose sales area to get started. I am looking for someone who would be able to stay at the mall from about 9:30-5:30. We like to have a member from each club there as we get walk-ins and we help hand roses out. I can only stay until 9:30 so please reach out if you are interested. Lunch is provided.
We did discuss some approaches for our Presidential position opening.... Still looking for a volunteer. Many of us have held the job for 2 or more times, and it is really important to share the leadership of our club. The club supports an incoming president going to the international conference this next year it will be in Singapor! There is a lot of great internal support as well - we have plenty of people to lead the meetings if you are not able to attend, I will continue to help with communication, and Rotary itself has some great information and resources. The is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills and help our club continue supporting projects throughout Barron Co. Please seriously consider being more involved - we need YOU!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Can Am Bon Spiel Committees are set. They will be looking for help during the event on Feb. 1, 2, and 3, 2024 Sign up sheets will be coming soon.
Ruby's Pantry - December 16
Salvation Army Bell Ringing - will start in November. If you have any preferential times/places please let me know so I can schedule.

The Conference of Clubs 2023 countdown has started! Five days until kickoff.
Besides inspirational speakers, interactive breakout sessions, meaningful House of Friendship, raffles, and prizes (I think a TV was mentioned), that evening, we will be entertained by the Todd Thompson Band http://toddcameronthompson.com/ at the BBQ dinner and dance.
