This week - Jim hosts - we will meet at Cabin Coffee for club updates, socializing, and committee work if needed.
Last week, BJ hosted. We were able to tour the Northwood Technical College's Immersive Room. It is a high-fidelity emergency medical simulation environment that is very cool! We got to see several situational simulations that give EMT's an idea of how some real emergencies may present themselves. This tool was created to give EMT and paramedic students realistic, sensory-rich training that closely mirrors the conditions they'll encounter in the field. The project was funded through the EduSTAT in Rural Healthcare grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. This was a fascinating tour - thanks BJ!
Today, Aug 24 we had a number of club members working at St. Vinnies - we handed out 130 meals today. Thank you Monika, BJ, Clare, Bill and Trudy for helping out. It was a fast and furious day. Some of our customers were even briefly serenaded, hopefully it won't happen again. ;-p
Cumberland Rotary Impact Club Update:
REMINDER - Meeting this Week- Wednesday Aug. 26 7:00 AM Harvest Grill
Happy Rutabaga Week! We meet this Wednesday at 7:00 am at the Harvest Grill at Cumberland Healthcare. This past week we were able to deliver school supplies to the Cumberland Elementary and Middle Schools along with Ascension Academy. We will do another delivery on Monday 8/24 after our supply drive wraps up. It was fun to have such great community support! We will be cleaning up the beer garden this week for Rutabaga Festival. On Thursday we will be meeting with the High School to talk about next steps for working with the kids on service and leadership.

To: All District 5960 Rotarians From: David Waldschmidt, District Literacy Team Lead The District Literacy Team encourages all of our clubs to take some time in the month of September to recognize our efforts to enhance literacy in our communities and across the globe. This is a good time to highlight your club’s literacy project focusing on how to advance your goals. Alternatively, you can use a club meeting to:
Connect with your local school district. Recognize a teacher or a Reading Specialist or invite an administrator to speak.
Connect with your local library. Ask about programs we can support or invite a librarian to speak.
Connect with another club and invite them to feature their work in literacy.
Connect with a global grant project that focuses on literacy.
Use this month of connection and recognition to springboard into a year of activity supporting the much-needed work of improving literacy in our youth and the broader community.
