Good Morning!
Sending you your weekly reminder you that we have our meeting this Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 7:00 AM at Stevies Cafe. Bruce is our host! Last week we had a great program hosted by Mike Van Gilder on the Jesse Reese (NEGU) Foundation. This organization may provide an opportunity for a project in the future! Let's talk more about it this week.
This week is also our Cinco de Mayo celebratory social fund raiser. We have about 6 guests for sure coming from the noon club. I have only received a couple RSVP's from our club - so please send me a note if you can with # of people attending (invite some friends!) so we can have enough food/beverages available. Also - if you cannot attend but would like to donate a raffle item or bottle - please bring to our meeting on Thursday or you can bring to Kathy at Johnson Bank during work hours, or me at Buck and Beams on Wednesday between 3-5pm or to the Curling Club at 3:00 on Thursday while Kathy, Monika, Clare and I are setting up.
Just a quick reminder - at our meetings, please order breakfast off the board or lower cost ala carte items. Your dues are set to cover $8 per week for breakfast and some options will exceed that. We understand that missing some meetings allows this to balance out but we are also just trying to be fiscally responsible.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Joe indicated that the Golden K is looking for vounteers to work their food cart at the Tuesday night "Music in the Park" events. Please see Joe or Jerry Atherton to get signed up. If you need a Rotary Vest - let me know!
We have the opportunity to serve a meal at the Benjamins House shelter....would be a great project to do once or twice a year but we really need someone who would be willing to take the lead on it.

Week #44 WOOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 We are down to the last 8 weeks of a fabulous year. It is May and the snow should stop. The grass is turning green and the trees are budding. Well, at least here in the St Paul area. I am aware that some of our clubs are still looking at snow and frozen lakes. I promise it will eventually end.
Yesterday we had the tri-district conference. A great time was had by all. Thanks to all of you who attended either in person or via zoom. A big thank you goes out to our amazing district administrator Kathy Hughitt who is the brains and brawn behind everything.
MUST READS/TO DOS
1. President’s Without Replacements – I’m dropping this off my list. Those of you with out President’s know who you are. Please reach out to your AGs and the district. We are here to help.
2. The Raffle Winner is…………………… Jack Gibbons. That shouldn’t surprise anyone as he collected 60 stamps or signatures. I have no doubt that he was at your club this year. He should be an inspiration to all of us to get out and visit other clubs.
3. Copyright Infringement – We all have insurance through RI and the biggest increase in lawsuits is copyright infringement – posting of cartoons, photos, and songs on websites and social media. Please read the attached information. This is VERY important.
4. Give a Little Love to the Bees – Over the past 50 years we have lost 45% of our pollinating bee population. Yesterday at the district conference we built a pollinator mansion to attract bees and Districts 5580, 5950 and 5960 signed the Pollinator Partnership. Please see the attached information about the project to protect the Great Lake Pollinators.
5. 4 Way Test PSA – Here is our newest PSA to go on the Searching for Service Radio Show and Podcast. This would be great to play for your club. Click on the mp3 file at the end of this email.

INTERESTING OPPORTUNITIES
1. Want to boost your member engagement? Get involved in a grant – local or international. There’s nothing in the world like being involved in making someone else’s life better. Here are some options (I will try to continue to list grant opportunities)
· Shelter Box – How much do you or your club know about the organization Shelter Box? This program was started by a British Rotarian and now it is a global non-profit providing housing and hope during all sorts of crises. See the attachment below about all their involvement during March of this year. Contact them. They will be happy to present to your club.
2. RAG – Rotary Action Groups – for members who are interested/passionate about a certain topic and want to become more involved RAGs are perfect. There are a ton of them.
a. RAG AP – That’s Rotary Action Group Addiction Prevention – They have partnered recently with Project VBOT (virtual-based opioid treatment), a new option for opioid treatment in North America. Read about it and get involved.
b. RAM Global AG – Rotarians Against Malaria Global Action Group – A child dies every minute from malaria and this group aims to change that statistic. Have a passion for this subject. Join the group. Become an ambassador for the program. Interestingly, malaria eradication is one of the scalable project winners. c. RAG ES – The Rotary Action Group for Endangered Species - brings together people who have expertise in protecting vulnerable creatures. The action group helps clubs and districts plan service projects that make an impact and connects them to a global network of people who are passionate about saving species. For example, the group partnered with the Rotary Club of Carpinteria Morning, California, USA, to co-sponsor a symposium on pollinators in Central America. d. ESRAG – Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group - is one of Rotary’s fastest-growing groups. With its extensive expertise, networks, and informational resources, it inspires and empowers the family of Rotary to implement effective environmental projects. These projects promote environmental sustainability, raise awareness of climate change, and take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate disruption Contact the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group to get involved.
4. Club Runner Changeover Training Webinars – pass on this information to your incoming leadership team. Sign up and join the webinars that teach you how to use and get the most out of your club runner program. And it’s FREE!! And recorded if you can’t attend live. These start on Apr 14th.

1. Naomi Trelouw - This comes directly from Ruth Peterka. “I just wanted to share with you a potential speaker for clubs. The Reel Hope project is a nonprofit group that makes "reels" for kids in foster care in the state of Minnesota to help share their stories in hopes that the kids become adopted and find a forever home. They have a great website with tons of information, and you can watch several of the reels. After they spoke to our club, one of our members initiated a matching donation challenge and we were able to sponsor 2 reels/kids plus a little extra. Pretty great way to make a huge impact on a kid's life. The contact I have used is : Naomi Trelouw. Her email is: naomi@thereelhopeproject.org. I know they are a group that is willing to travel pretty much anywhere and are very interested in speaking and connecting with Rotary clubs. Just an idea for others that our members were excited about.”
Peace
1. Dr. Ann Frisch – I don’t know if I can possibly give enough accolades to Ann and all she has done for peace around the world. Perhaps it is best to let you know this. “In 2017, Frisch was chosen by Rotary International as a People of Action: Champion of Peace in recognition of her extraordinary accomplishments. Frisch is one of only six Rotarians throughout the world to be given this honor. She attended an awards ceremony at the U. N. European Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.” Did you even know that RI has a seat at the UN? We do. Anyway, this impressive woman lives in our backyard and is happy to come out to our clubs and speak. I know because I asked her. She said yes!!!! We are truly blessed. Poverty
1. Darcy Ellarby - Darcy recently joined the board of directors for an amazing nonprofit organization operating in Ghana in West Africa called Africa Youth Rising. Rather than reacting to the results of poverty, AYR is taking a much needed and novel approach to examine the root causes of vulnerability. AYR works to address these needs long before families destabilize and children end up in youth homes or suffer life-long consequences of malnutrition and lack of education or medical care. AYR's executive director is in Ghana and is able to zoom in as well for presentations.
Ethics
1. The 4 Way Test/Virtues Project - George Wickstrom - George is passionate about making the world a better place by entering each encounter consciously thinking about the 4 way test. Environment
1. Citizens Climate Lobby – Alan Anderson – luckyduck49@gmail – Remember, the environment is now one of our pillars. Get in on what should be the 100th floor but is currently the ground floor and find out what you can do to make our world healthy and beautiful for generations to come.

2. Kyle Haugen takes on all things public image. He's a fabulous speaker - inspirational and motivating. Take him up on one of his three prepared programs or challenge him with your specific request. He didn't know that I was going to add that last bit.' Reach out to Kyle.
A. “Rotary- Doing Good, Serious Fun” - Doing good and having fun should be what Rotary is all about…but what is “Serious Fun”? And are we really doing as much and having as much fun as we could? Let’s talk about why “Doing Good, Serious Fun” should be a Rotary mantra to live by, how it fits with Rotary President Jennifer Jones’s theme of “Imagine Rotary” and how we can engage our members to maximize the good…and the fun!
B. Principles of Effective Fundraising - Club fundraisers are more than about raising money, they should engage your members and the community as well. Learn principles that enhance your member participation and increase your fundraising results. Whether it be making $5,000-$10,000 in a small event or $1,000,000 in a major music festival (an actual Rotary example we'll talk about!), the principles are the same...and will lead to more impact in your community!
C. The Importance of Telling Our Rotary Story - Every Rotarian has a Rotary story, and telling our Rotary stories is the best way to show non-Rotarians who we are and what we do. Rotary Public Image Coordinator (Zones 25B &29) Kyle Haugen will share motivational tips on how to develop and tell our Rotary stories, which will lead to more understanding of our organization and get people excited to join us!
Leadership
1. Dave Webb – Homerun Leadership - Consider inviting Keynote Speaker and Best Selling Author of Homerun Leadership to your next Rotary Club meeting. Dave Webb is currently a member of the Roseville Rotary Club and has been a Rotary Member for the past 25 years. Dave is willing to drive to join you, in person or on zoom, for your next Rotary meeting. Dave’s specialty is helping leaders and leadership teams use a simple 4 step, science based, leadership framework that he puts on a baseball diamond for leaders to follow and produce the best team decisions. Leaders especially appreciate developing a common language with their teams, using a simple 4 step framework, to make great team decisions. drdavewebb@homerunleadership.com .
General Speakers
1. Deano Pape - Deano Pape is president of Austin Rotary and has a talk that he is happy to deliver to area Rotary clubs called The 100 Hour Day: Welcome to Your Cell phone. He does an exercise with the audience that measures their technology consumption and discusses the effects of our social media and cellphone engagement. He also tailors his talk to specific requests, such as effects on our personal relationships, productivity in the workplace, education, political polarization, and/or post-lockdown uses of technology and where we go from here. 2. Annie Nolte-Henning - Annie is Director of the Americas for Alight (previously the American Refugee Committee) - she is knowledgeable and inspiring. If she can't come and talk, she has a staff that can. Very cool. Give her a ring 402.297.2368
3. Bill Goodwin - This one comes to use via our own Kathy Hughitt. She has heard Bill speak on leadership but states that he is capable of speaking on multiple topics. Kathy says he is very engaging. Bill is also one of our Lakeville Rotarian. bill@prioritylivingmn.com
4. Frank Bures - a frequent writer for our Rotary magazine and the author of a new book, “The Shape of the World,” which includes essays and thoughts around some of his topics for the magazine (culture, language and humanity).
