This week - Jason hosts a program surprise. Last week we had a great report-out and discussion of topics from our Board Meeting. A couple of items discussed:
Don D. moved and Bill K. seconded an approval for an additional $247 paid to Joe and Julie E for expenses incurred with the Argentina Friendship Exchange.
Discussed the Bourbon Tasting with an agreement that we will have a smaller number of items for donation - more Rotary Focused - Barron Co. will do the Bed Project; Cumberland will do the Suicide Prevention; Shell Lake will determine an appropriate youth based project. Also discussed and agreed that items donated for the silent auction - $ raised will be split between BCS Rotary and the donating companion club.
We have our four project groups - please think about which one you would like to work with this next year. Public Image; Membership; Service Projects (local and Intl.) and Club Health/Identity.
Discussed our Social Gathering for this month. We will gather, along with our companion clubs, on Wed. July 22 to attend the Kids From Wisconsin concert at Veteran's Park in Rice Lake. We will pre-gather around 4:30 at The Bar - on Marshall St. for beverages/snacks. And then head over to the part afterwards. We will figure out a way to get our chairs together in the park to enjoy the music all together.
Also, remember to sign up to be a part of a volunteer group attending the RI Conference in Mpls in 2028. See info below under district news to get your name on the list. Get signed up even if you are not sure.
Cumberland Rotary Impact Club Update:
REMINDER - Recruitment Gathering/Meeting this Week, Wednesday, July 15th - 5:30 pm at The Tower House
We will be gathering and meeting with a business recruitment event on July 15, 5:30 pm at the Tower House. We will also kick off our fall school supplies drive! In August, we will support the National Night Out in Cumberland, and are working to determine what we will do for Rutabega Fest.
Shell Lake Area Companion Club Update:
REMINDER - Social Gathering Wednesday, July 22, 4:30 pm at The Bar in Rice Lake.
We will be meeting again with the Superintendent and Principles of the local schools on Aug. 12th, to discuss potential needs and how our companion group may be able to help. Looking to get together with BCS Rotary group for the July Social Gathering on Wed. July 22 to see the Kid's From Wisconsin concert.
EXECUTIVE BUSINESS: PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS!!
Sunrise Rotary still needs to finalize officers for the next year. Jason is president. Kathy agreed to do treasurer again and Trudy agreed to continue as secretary. We need coverage for Membership and Foundation - this is a great way to get started on being more involved in Rotary - please let Jason know. We will also be looking for a president for Rotary year 27/28. Jason is willing to co-pres if someone will step up for a two year committment (first year co with Jason, second year on own).
This is our 30th Anniversary for Sunrise Rotary - would like to do something - if you want to help out you can join Jason, Monika and Clare for planning. Clare will also be doing a time line - please share YOUR Rotary timeline with Clare or Jason by Mid-August.

President’s Corner: Thoughts on Service from Allison Wittner
Service is different. Service is a calling. It is taking on a task, a role, or a responsibility not because it excites you or fits neatly into your plans, but because it needs to be done. Service is trading a weekend at the cabin for a project that will make a difference. It is stepping up to co-lead a fundraiser because the person who normally carries the load is running on fumes. It is saying “yes” when your first instinct is “not right now”. I see Rotarians who exemplify these methods of service every day. It is not about what you get out of the experience; it’s about making sure the mission moves forward. Volunteering often starts with what we want to do. Service begins with what needs to be done. Both are valuable, but to me, service asks something deeper of us. It requires sacrifice, humility, and a willingness to put the needs of the community ahead of our own preferences.
PS A favorite quote from the membership session I attended at the Taipei convention: “If you want responsible members, you need to give the responsibilities.”
